TL DR: Get this game if you intend to play it SOLELY on the Steam Deck. The story is similar in ways to Tales of Arise, and that's a compliment. Slogging through the tedious exploration is rewarded with great story segments, character to character dialogues and monologues, and unique, often element specific instances to explore. Dive back into Tales of Symphonia, an exciting and beloved action RPG, now with enhanced graphics and improved gameplay Skip to main content. Early in the game, exploring the map to reach your next destination could turn off some players to the game. This is however alleviated by a fairly robust roster of enemy types.Įxploration is the most tedious part, and isn't much rewarding beyond unlocking the ability to ride your mount in specific areas of the map, each of which must be unlocked individually. Combat is responsive, although it can be a bit repetitive. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World uses the 'Flex Range Element Enhanced Linear Motion Battle System' (FR:EE-LiMBS), combining aspects of Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Destinys battle systems, to create a battle experience comparable to Tales of Innocences Dimension Stride Linear Motion Battle System. On Steam Deck this was an entirely different experience. Maybe 1 in 10 times I could get to the main menu, but would experience crashes any time I tried to change settings. It would crash to a black screen upon opening the game and trying to play the intro video. For me, the game was practically unplayable on PC. This review will be based on technical aspects of the game as well as gameplay.
